Be Sure You Need the .187" Shutter

Kodak M-Series shutters were produced for two shutter-drive shaft diameters: .185" and .187". The difference is only .002", so selecting the correct version by appearance alone is not reliable.

Measure the diameter of the shutter-drive shaft with a digital caliper before ordering. If the shaft measures .187" and your projector uses the double-blade shutter, part 198395 is the correct shutter configuration.

Double-Blade Shutter for M80, M85 & M95

The M80, M85, and M95 use the double-blade shutter configuration. This distinguishes part 198395 from the single-blade shutters used in the M70 and M90.

For the .187" shaft size:

• 198395 – Double blade, .187"

• 198574 – Single blade, .187"

For the .185" shaft size:

• 178642 – Double blade, .185"

• 178641 – Single blade, .185"

Checking both the number of shutter blades and the shaft diameter is essential when selecting a replacement.

Rebuilt with a New Delrin Gear

One of the common failures in these projectors occurs when the original shutter gear deteriorates or its teeth break away.

New replacement shutters are no longer available. Rebuildable late-style shutters can instead be fitted with a new Delrin gear, allowing the shutter assembly to be returned to service without relying on increasingly scarce new-old-stock components.

Late-Style Shutter Core Required

Only the late-style shutter can be rebuilt. The early-style shutter cannot be rebuilt, although a rebuilt late-style shutter can be installed in a projector originally equipped with an early-style shutter.

If you have a rebuildable late-style shutter, please return it as a core. Keeping usable cores in circulation is essential to maintaining the supply of rebuilt shutters for these vintage projectors.
