Achieve an exceptionally fine surface with Flexi-Plast aluminum oxide finishing film. This 9 micron self-adhesive abrasive sheet is the finest grade in the Flexi-Plast 268 L sheet range, making it ideal for final surface refinement after progressively coarser abrasives have established and smoothed the surface.

The flexible sheet adapts to flat, curved, and contoured surfaces, while the self-adhesive backing allows pieces to be mounted to suitable blocks, holders, or custom-shaped supports. The full 216 x 279 mm sheet can be cut into smaller pieces, strips, or custom shapes to suit the workpiece and application.

Ultra-Fine 9 Micron / P1800 Grade

The 9 micron grade provides very fine abrasive action for final surface refinement.

SSP's comparison table places 9 micron at approximately P1800, making it substantially finer than the 15, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, and 100 micron Flexi-Plast grades.

Rather than being used for aggressive material removal, this grade is best suited to refining the scratch pattern left by previous abrasive steps and producing a smoother, more uniform surface.

Aluminum Oxide Abrasive

Flexi-Plast uses aluminum oxide abrasive for controlled surface finishing.

At 9 micron, the fine abrasive particle size makes this sheet particularly useful for later stages of finishing when the major scratches and surface irregularities have already been removed.

The flexible format can be used on suitable:

  • Metals

  • Plastics

  • Flat surfaces

  • Curved components

  • Contoured surfaces

  • Edges

  • Irregular shapes

  • Detailed workpieces

Self-Adhesive Backing

The 268 L series features a self-adhesive backing, allowing pieces of abrasive to be attached to suitable blocks, holders, and shaped supports.

Mount a piece to a flat support when maintaining a level surface is important, or attach it to an appropriately shaped support for curved and contoured components.

This also makes it possible to create small application-specific finishing tools from pieces cut from the full sheet.

Cut to the Size You Need

Each sheet measures 216 x 279 mm, approximately 8.5" x 11".

The sheet can be cut into:

  • Small finishing pieces

  • Narrow strips

  • Custom shapes

  • Larger sections for broad surfaces

This allows the full sheet to be adapted to both detailed bench work and larger surface-finishing applications.

Final Step in Progressive Finishing

The 9 micron grade is particularly useful at the fine end of a progressive Flexi-Plast finishing sequence.

The Flexi-Plast 268 L sheet range progresses from coarse to fine as follows:

100 micron – approximately P100
80 micron – approximately P180
60 micron – approximately P240
40 micron – approximately P360
30 micron – approximately P500
20 micron – approximately P800
15 micron – approximately P1000
9 micron – approximately P1800

Moving through progressively smaller micron sizes reduces the scratch pattern left by the previous abrasive and creates an increasingly refined surface.

Not every application requires every grade. Choose the starting point and number of steps according to the initial condition of the surface and the finish required.

9 Micron vs. 15 Micron

The 9 micron/P1800 sheet is finer than the 15 micron/P1000 version.

Choose 15 micron when the surface still requires more cutting action and refinement.

Choose 9 micron when the surface is ready for an even finer finishing step.

When using both, start with 15 micron and follow with 9 micron.

Frequently Asked Questions

What abrasive grade is this sheet?
This version is 9 micron, approximately equivalent to P1800.

Is 9 micron the finest Flexi-Plast 268 L sheet?
Yes. Among the listed 268 L sheet grades, 9 micron is the finest.

Is 9 micron finer than 15 micron?
Yes. Lower micron numbers indicate smaller abrasive particles, so 9 micron provides a finer abrasive action than 15 micron.

When should I use the 9 micron grade?
It is best suited to final or near-final surface refinement after coarser abrasives have already removed larger scratches and surface irregularities.

What grade should I use before 9 micron?
The 15 micron grade is a logical preceding step when additional refinement is required before moving to 9 micron.

Is the sheet self-adhesive?
Yes. The 268 L series has a self-adhesive backing.

What size is the sheet?
It measures 216 x 279 mm, approximately 8.5" x 11".

How thick is the sheet?
The specified thickness is 0.3 mm.

Can it be used on metal?
Yes. Flexi-Plast is suitable for fine finishing applications on metals.

Can it be used on plastic?
Yes. It can also be used for fine finishing of suitable plastic surfaces.

Can I cut it into smaller pieces?
Yes. The sheet can be cut into strips, smaller sections, or custom shapes to match the workpiece.

Can I attach it to a finishing block or holder?
Yes. The self-adhesive backing allows pieces to be mounted to suitable blocks, holders, and shaped supports.

Does 9 micron produce a polished finish?
It produces a very fine abrasive finish, but the final appearance will depend on the material, starting surface, previous abrasive steps, and whether additional polishing is performed afterward.
